A Note About the Music

Dear Family,

I wanted to take a moment to share with you about something that has been a long time coming.

If you’ve spent any time on the website lately, you may have noticed a new page. Asphalt Cipher Records. And yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like. A record label. My new record label. And with it, a music project that carries more of my story than almost anything else I have ever released into the world.

Asphalt Alchemy: The Cipher Vol. 1 is 25+ years of living put to music.

A lifetime of things I’ve thought about. And felt. And cried about. And could not always say out loud in any other form. The pain. The joy. The truth I needed to speak even when speaking it was difficult.

The love I carried and sometimes did not know what to do with.

All of it found its way on paper eventually.

What I love most about this project is what it does with genre. Because I have never been one thing…. neither is this music. There are ballads that find their way into something that feels like house music.

Hip hop revisited through a newer lens. Songs that started in the R&B and hip hop tradition and ended up somewhere that now feels like country, or alternative, or something that does not have a clean name yet.

The word still matters.

In any style, in any key, the words are still doing the work.

Right now this album lives exclusively on nativelementz.com. For this community first.

When it goes out to the wider world through distribution, this community will continue to something special that nobody else gets.
